迷失 (LOST)
Míshī
This is a contemporary installation work conducted in high school by my group comprised of more than 700 hand cut and hand drawn butterflies of varying sizes. This work was inspired by Mexico based artist Carlos Armorales whose works often carry unsettling undertones. The installation conducted was based on the Butterly Dream parable of Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi (Chuang-tzu, 369 BCE - 286 BCE) that symbolises transformation of self and explores philosophical issues relating to the dream-state, and waking-state. This work transforms at night time as lights have been strewn into the installation, creating a warm glow in comparison to the disturbing energy distributed in the daytime. The disturbing effect was mainly due to the distinct and heavy contrast of black butterflies and a white wall. The photo provided is the installation at night.
